Community health & wellbeing

Planning for a healthier Cue

The Public Health Plan provides a framework for the Shire to identify local public health priorities and consider actions that can improve and protect the health and wellbeing of the community.

Public health is influenced by more than access to health services. The places people live, opportunities to be active, access to healthy food, social connection, community safety and the local environment can all contribute to community wellbeing.

What can we influence locally?

Local government has an important role in creating environments that support healthier communities. This can include community facilities, recreation, environmental health, public spaces, events, programs and partnerships with other organisations.

The Public Health Plan helps the Shire focus its effort on local priorities while recognising that many health outcomes require collaboration across government, health providers, community organisations and the wider community.

Healthy communities

Health is shaped by where we live

Local public health planning recognises the many factors that influence people's health, wellbeing and quality of life.

01
Places
Safe, accessible and welcoming places support community activity and connection.
02
Prevention
Prevention and early action can help reduce avoidable health risks and improve wellbeing.
03
Connection
Strong social connection and opportunities to participate contribute to community wellbeing.
04
Partnership
Local action is stronger when Council, services and community organisations work together.
Integrated planning

Health is part of the bigger picture

Public health planning does not operate separately from the rest of Council's work. Community facilities, recreation, planning, environmental health, infrastructure and community development can all contribute to health outcomes.

Connecting the Public Health Plan with the Shire's broader strategic planning framework helps health and wellbeing considerations inform Council priorities and future delivery.
