Access for everyone

Building a more accessible and inclusive Cue

The Disability Access & Inclusion Plan guides the Shire in identifying and addressing barriers that may prevent people with disability from participating fully in community life or accessing Shire services.

Access and inclusion is considered across the whole organisation — from buildings, events and information through to customer service, consultation, complaints and employment.

Seven outcome areas

What the DAIP seeks to achieve

Western Australia's Disability Access and Inclusion framework identifies seven outcome areas aimed at ensuring people with disability have the same opportunities as other members of the community.

01
Services & events

Access to services and events

People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to access Shire services and participate in events organised by the Shire.

02
Buildings & facilities

Access to Shire facilities

People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to access Shire buildings and other facilities.

03
Information

Accessible information

Information is provided in ways that enable people with disability to access it as readily as other people.

04
Service quality

Equal quality of service

People with disability receive the same level and quality of service from Shire employees as other members of the community.

05
Complaints

Accessible complaint processes

People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to make complaints to the Shire.

06
Consultation

Participation in consultation

People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to participate in public consultation undertaken by the Shire.

07
Employment

Inclusive employment

People with disability have the same opportunities as other people to obtain and maintain employment with the Shire.

Everyone's responsibility

Access is part of everyday Council business

Improving access and inclusion is not limited to one service or facility. It can influence how the Shire designs projects, maintains facilities, communicates information, runs community events and engages with residents.

Considering accessibility early can help identify and remove barriers before they affect people's ability to participate in community life.
