Scheme & Strategy

Local Planning Scheme No. 2

The Local Planning Scheme is the statutory planning instrument governing land use and development within the scheme area. It identifies zones and reserves and establishes requirements for different forms of development.

Local Planning Strategy

The Local Planning Strategy provides the longer-term direction for land use and development and helps guide future planning decisions and changes to the local planning framework.

Planning legislation

Planning within the Shire operates under the Planning and Development Act 2005 and the Planning and Development (Local Planning Schemes) Regulations 2015, together with the Shire's local planning scheme and applicable State planning policies.

Planning requirements can change over time. Applicants should confirm the requirements applying to their property and proposal before lodging an application.

Different approvals

Planning approval is not building approval

Planning approval considers whether a proposed use or development is appropriate for a particular property and location.

Building approval deals with the construction and technical requirements applying to building work. Depending on the proposal, you may require planning approval, a building permit or both.
