Planning beyond the annual budget

Looking ahead financially

The Long Term Financial Plan helps Council consider the financial implications of services, projects, assets and strategic priorities over a longer planning horizon.

It supports informed decision-making by bringing together expected income, expenditure, capital requirements and other financial commitments as part of the Shire's broader planning framework.

How will we fund it?

Strategic and corporate planning identifies what the Shire wants and needs to deliver. Long-term financial planning considers whether those priorities can be supported within the Shire's available and expected financial resources.

This allows Council to consider the relationship between current decisions and future financial capacity rather than looking at each annual budget in isolation.

Integrated planning

Linking priorities with resources

Financial planning supports the strategic and corporate plans by considering the resources required to deliver Council services and priorities over time.

Looking ahead

More than one financial year

Decisions made today can create financial commitments well into the future. New infrastructure may need ongoing maintenance, services require staffing and operating resources, and existing assets need renewal or replacement.

Long-term planning helps Council understand these broader impacts and consider how competing priorities can be managed over time.
